Owner history

Finally another update for this blog. Clearly my other vehicles gets more attention. Not a special update but one just for the records. I made some photo's of the official car papers which reveals when the car was registered, imported to the Netherlands and from whom it was bought previously.

According to this the car was first registered at 8-4-1965
It was imported to the Netherlands at 4-4-2003
And it was bought by my father at 10-6-2005
And put on my mother's name at 20-11-2015

The car was purchased by this company who is specialized in Morris Minors:

The car was completely restored and didn't require any work to be done. So it was instantly ready to be used.

Ed China working on a Morris Minor

No worries, I'm still here and have not forgotten about this car. It's just holiday season and other work to do on other cars. Reason for todays update is this posting I noticed on FB. It's Ed China, guess he doesn't need any introduction. A very sympathetic techie which I liked to follow on the programm wheel dealers. In any case, he's here pictured with a Morris Minor, hence sharing it on this blog:

Some small repairs

Instead of writing up a little more history on the car my next update is about a little maintenance I have been doing yesterday. More background on the car will follow later.

The car had it's MOT last year. It did not pass in one go as it had a small failure. The left side parking light was not working. Apparently this was caused by a loose wire so this did got fixed on the spot. So we were good to go. The MOT is valid for another two years and will expire by 19-6-2018. But due to new laws overhere cars hitting the age of 50 years or older will be exempted per 1st may 2018. Prior to this only cars pre 1960 were exempted for MOT. If I'm correct this will mean that no more MOT will be required. Still I think it would be good to get some regular safety check done.

In any case after last years MOT I went back home but stranded nevertheless just at the exit of the motor highway - you wouldnt expect that after completing the MOT just five minutes ago. I couldn't figure it out what was wrong so I called my mother and we towed the last few miles back home. Sigh! My brother had the car fixed with the mechanic who used to help my father. Apparently it was an electrical issue caused by the electrical coil (bobine) - if I recall correctly it was a loose connection (another one!).

By now my brother has been making a few long trips together with my mother. He remarked the car was idling very high when running stationary. As I don't fancy fiddling around with carbs I figured it would be a nice opportunity to call the mechanic. He would probably like this job and of course it's very nice to meet up again. He's a special guy and very talented. My father had been supporting him over many years as he wasn't allowed to drive due to epiletic seizures. This was caused by a car accident he once had. Last year they performed a brain chirurgery and to our great surprise he was problem free since. At the time I contacted him this was just over a year ago and he was just allowed since two weeks to drive again. How cool is that! He has got his freedom back and as such he drove to our place to have a look at the car.

He got the carbs (two large Webers - not Original) nicely tuned up agan and the car drove like a charm. The carbs also required a bit of oil. I had never seen that before. Apparently these have a small oil housing for the moving mechanical parts. I forgot to make pictures about that so I will include them next time.

Also we filled up the oil as it was below the minimum level. I purchased Classic Kroon oil 20W50.

Another item I fixed was mounting back the bumper rosette. The right side was damaged and broken off. Turns out this was a plastic replica and not a steel one. Not sure when this happened but my dad was never bothered to get this fixed. Luckily the item was still in the boot of the car. I was easily repaired with kit and then screwed back on. Again I forgot to make pictures. But on this picture here you can see it's missing.

Furthermore we looked into the failing parking light issue. By now I noticed the other side was no longer working somehow. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. We did notice the fuseholder box was playing up when touching it. It looks like something is broken internally. It was however not the cause for the failing parking light. As the mechanic ran out of the time we decided to tackle this issue another time.

As such I decided to order a new fusebox holder and get it replaced. This is exactly what I did yesterday. Parts are so easy to get and very affordable as well. I paid € 12,80 with € 5,39 shipping costs from the UK.

OLD

NEW

I checked the old holder but couldn't see anything unusual, still it's a flaky item so it's good this is renewed. I just have this habit to get everything in good working order. And all must be working correctly as intended. So definately more to come ...

Introduction

Yes, it's time for another blog. By now this has become my third blog and the intention for this blog is just the same as for the others. Simply building up a track record on the car and the things I do on maintaining the car and expanding my knowhow. If you are curious about my other blogs just check out the "about me" profile.

The car was purchased some years ago by my dad for Leisure driving. Something he liked very much doing so. I guess it's running in the family. Unfortunately he passed away on 18th October 2015 at the age of 71 and as such my mother inherited the car since. So it's my duty now to preserve and maintain it.
