APK / MOT 2018

Prior to the visit I had checked the oil since my brother had been driving 2 classic car rally's the past 2 months. Good I did as oil was just below the minimum.

I still had a can of classic oil from last round so I filled it up with the remaining 0,5 liter.

On to the garage

Only the rear right wheel does have a small oil issue (same as last time), bearing is ok though, so no fail for the MOT.

Rear wheel arche that can use some preventative corrossion spray:

A little corrossion on the floor panel that needs preventative protection:

The rear of the cardan seems to have a little oil leakage / bad seal. But nothing worrisome:

Anoher floor panel that needs attention:

And a pass for the final outcome, hurray! We are good to go for another 2 years:

Parking light failure

Yes, finally an update again. As I mentioned in this blog:

http://erwinminortourer.blogspot.nl/2017/07/some-small-repairs.html

The car had still this minor issue with the left parking light. Also I was hoping the new law for cars older then 50 years being exempted for MOT would have kicked in. But that law got postponed. Meaning next month the car needs MOT again. So time to get the issue fixed.

As per given blog, the fuseholder had already been renewed but without result. It cured a flaky contact though. But also the left parking light stopped working since.

When doing some simple measurement it became evident there was no 12v to both lights. And I couldn't localize where there was a potential cable failure or a faulty connector. So I ran a complete new wire and both parking lights were working again. Hurray.

But now the left indicator light failed. After double checking again I noticed it was due to a bad connector. Likely it went "faulty" when checking the parking light connectors. The whole wiring is a bit messy and with old corroded contacts. Below just a small example ...

In any case, all is working for the moment so I can make an appointment and hopefully no surprises at the MOT.
